The Hang 10 Registry 1975 Fender Tag Decoder Page

The fender tag is located under the hood on the inner front driver side fender just rearward of the battery. It is painted body color and is held on with two Phillips screws. It lists the VIN and many of the major options that came on the car.

This tag can be decoded to tell you about the major options the car came from the factory with. If you are looking at buying a Hang 10 where the fender tag is missing think long and hard because you will have a hard time proving it is a genuine Hang 10.

Decoding the fender tag is a small trick. You read the tag left to right however you start at the bottom line and work up to the top of the tag.

BOTTOM LINE

Starting on the left, the first code identifies the engine the car came with. The options in this field will be one of the following:

E24 = 225 cid Slant Six 6 cylinder
E44 = 318 cid 2bbl
E58 = 360 cid 4bbl

The second code identifies the transmission the car came with. The option in this field will be the following:

D34 = Std. Duty Auto Transmission (Note: D34 will appear on every tag)

The third code identifies the model type. The options in this field will be one of the following:

LL29 = Dart Low Line Sport Model
LM29 = Dart Medium Sport Model

The fourth code is comprised of three unique values that each mean something different. So this will be divided into 3 positions as follows:
First Position indicates the engine code, the options for this position are:

C = 225 cid Slant Six 6cyl.
G = 318 cid 2bbl 8cyl.
L = 360 cid 4bbl HP 8cyl.

Second position indicates the model year. On a 1975 Dart Sport this value will always be 5 (five) which indicates it is a 1975.

Third position indicates the assembly plant:

B = Hamtramck, MI USA
G = St. Louis, MO USA

The final number on the bottom line is the build sequence number. Both plants started the 1975 model year with sequence number 100001 and worked up from there. One must remember that the St. Louis and Hamtramck plants made other models as well….not just Darts, so the sequence number is assigned to each car as it moved in order through the assembly plant. If your sequence number is 102410 that does not mean your Dart was the 2,410th Dart built, but rather your car was the 2,410th car (all models) built at the plant.

SECOND LINE FROM BOTTOM

Again starting on the left, the first code identifies the paint color the car came with. The Hang 10 only came in one color, so the code on your tag should be EW1.

The next code identifies the interior trim the car came with. Again, this car came with only one interior, which was:

J6VW = Bucket Seats w/Orange, Black & White Interior

The next code identifies the upper door frame paint color.

000 = Full Door Panels (white)
006 = Unknown at this time
007 = Unknown at this time

The next code identifies the production date of your Hang 10. The next code identifies the production date of your Hang 10. To date there is no definitive answer as to when the first Hang 10 was built and also when the last one was built. The production date code is 3 digits and includes a factory identifier for the month (1 digit) followed by the day of that month (2 digits). The possible codes are:

8 = August 1974   01-31
9 = September 1974   01-30
A = October 1974   01-31
B = November 1974   01-30
C = December 1974   01-31
1 = January 1975   01-31
2 = February 1975   01-28
3 = March 1975   01-31
4 = April 1975   01-30
5 = May 1975   01-31
6 = June 1975   01-30
7 = July 1975   01-10

The next code identifies the vehicle order number. This number is simply the order number assigned to the dealership on the original order sheet. Sometimes it is preceded by a letter, such as a C (Canada), E (Export), K (Special Order), M (Sunroof Car), Q (Executive Lease or Public Relations), or T (Chrysler Lease).

THIRD LINE FROM BOTTOM AND UP TO TOP OF TAG

Again, starting from the left, the first code identifies the roof color or if the car had a vinyl roof. The options in this field will be one of the following:

EW1 = White Roof Painted
V1W = Full Vinyl Roof White
V4W = Half Vinyl Canopy Roof White

The next code signifies where the car was shipped to. The options found so far, are as follows:

C = Canada
U = United States

The next code is the beginning of the listing of all the major option codes which will be listed in alphabetical order working left to right on this line and then moving up to the next line, again left to right until you see the code END indicating the end of the option codes. Not all option codes are found on the fender tag, the full listing is found on the broadcast sheet.
